Dhobi Ghat – bambai

  1. Dhobi Ghat is a 2011 Indian movie directed by Kiran Rao that shows the story of 4 characters within that Mumbai city, unseen by many.
  2. Arun (Aamir Khan) is an artist who meets Shai (Monica Dogra), an NRI banker at an art event. They become close enough, but Arun is not comfortable with this relationship, which angers Shai. Munna (Prateik Babbar), a washerman comes in contact with Shai. They become friends and Munna helps Shai in touring the unseen Mumbai and capture photographs. Meanwhile, Arun moves into a new house and discovers some tapes. The tapes have recordings of the previous tenant who lived there, Yasmin. Arun uses her story to create his next art. By the end of the tape, Arun finds that Yasmin committed suicide in the same house. A distressed Arun moves to a new house. Munna who developed feelings for Shai finds out that she has feelings for Arun. Munna is further lead to a state of embarrassment when Shai sees him killing rats at night shifts. Shai expresses her feelings of friendship to Munna and requests him to give Arun’s new address. Munna hesitates first but eventually helps her.
  3. This movie is great to watch with a spectacular cast and a touching story. Kudos to the director and the writer, obviously to connect 4 characters and place them within the city of Mumbai and to highlight the unexplored Bambai so elegantly.
  4. Mumbai is a city which gives too much to the person who can go to any level to achieve their dreams. A city that houses the richest of the rich and the poorest of the poor and middle class sandwiched between them, up to the neck.
  5. The movie has highlighted the plight that every Mumbaikar, how much heavy their bank account may be, face and that is the water flooded during the heavy rains. From roads to small houses, everyone and everything just starts floating.
  6. Family issues involving husband and wife exist everywhere, where some get resolved and some end in divorce while some end in suicide. Every individual has their way to cope up with a problem, but suicide is never that one.
  7. The acting by the cast was good with special mention of all the locations used. The use of professional cameras along with the camcorder made the movie more real. The painting created in the movie depicted a struggling wife’s life.
  8. There are professions which impact our life one way or the other but we neglect in providing respect to the same. Washermen and rat killers are some of those professions which make our life easier, but the discrimination towards them shows a difficult society.
  9. A commercially successful movie that was praised internationally also.
  10. A must watch one and I say it’s VERY HOT.
