Ajeeb Daastaans – baby twister

  1. Ajeeb Daastaans is a 2021 Hindi movie that is a combination of 4 short stories directed by Shashank Khaitan – Majnu, Raj Mehta – Khilauna, Neeraj Ghaywan – Geeli Pucchi and Kayoze Irani – Ankahi.
  2. Majnu – Raj, a handsome and well educated young man who also happens to be Babloo’s (Jaideep Ahlawat) driver’s son is hired by Babloo to look after his business finances. Lipakshi (Fatima Sana Shaikh), Babloo’s wife falls in love with Raj and they plan to escape. Babloo is fooled by Raj as he wanted to take revenge for his father whose leg was broken by Babloo years ago. He runs away with Babloo’s money and also in the process betrays Lipakshi, who is pregnant with his child. Khilauna – Meenal(Nushrat Bharucha) is a young maid and lives with her little sister Binny. She starts working in Vinod’s house as he would help her in fixing the electricity issue in her house. Vinod tries to sexually assault Meenal and she tells it to her boyfriend Sushil(Abhishek Banerjee). Vinod beats up Sushil for unwanted reasons. Vinod organizes a party the same night for his newborn. The newborn is later found dead inside a pressure cooker. The culprit, Binny imagined the baby to be a toy and therefore killed him. Geeli Pucchi – Bharti (Konkona Sen Sharma) is disturbed by not getting the data entry job that she was qualified for and was fed up with working as a machine operator in the same company. Priya(Aditi Rao Hydari), an upper-caste woman is offered the job. Slowly Bharti and Priya become friends and develop affection for each other. Priya starts behaving differently when she finds about Bharti’s low caste. Bharti plans to take revenge by advising Priya to conceive the baby as her husband wanted. She also tells Priya’s in-laws that Priya needs to look after her child instead of working. During all these times, Bharti does the data-entry job and finally, Priya quits her job and Bharti is made permanent. Ankahi – Natasha (Shefali Shah) and Rohan are having an ugly fight over the condition of their daughter Samaira, who is becoming deaf slowly. Natasha insists Rohan learn the sign language which he refuses because of lack of time. Natasha meets Kabir (Manav Kaul), a deaf photographer and they fall in love. Natasha decides to take the relationship forward as she is fed up with Rohan not giving the family enough time. The next day after her lovemaking with Kabir, when Natasha returns home, she finds Rohan talking to Samaira in sign language. This makes her happy but she finds Kabir standing right behind her. Kabir went to express his love but he finds about Natasha’s family. Natasha decides to leave Kabir.
  3. The best story is Geeli Pucchi because of the turn it takes and the way, the three major problems have been addressed – Equality, Caste and LGBTQI+A. The story on the bottom would be Ankahi as the story did not impact much but the acting is worth praising.
  4. Revenge is a feeling that stays on forever until it is not taken. It passes on from family to family and can even travel hundreds of years forward. Revenge is part of a cycle that messes up lives and leads to deaths on the way.
  5. Children notice everything and remember and even try to follow each wordings that go into their mind. They do not have the power to refine and understand each word that comes out of the mouth of an adult, so they take everything as it is.
  6. More than female equality or accepting LGBTQI+A, the major problem that seems to be unnecessary and exists only in India is the caste system. This system is being misused by the system itself and the worthy ones are lagging.
  7. The dilemma is a phenomenon that happens daily in everyone’s life. It can happen on a large scale and even on a small one. When it comes to relationships, maintaining them and prioritizing one over the other is like walking on fire.
  8. The common thing that I found in every story was the baby. The baby bought the distant couples together, a baby was used to fight against sexual assault, a baby helped in fighting against caste discrimination and a child united the family again.
  9. A critically acclaimed movie that was a Netflix release.
  10. A one-time watch and I say it’s GOOD.
