Anjaam Pathiraa – criminal psycho vs psycho criminal

1. Anjaam Pathiraa is a 2020 Malayalam movie directed by Midhun Manuel Thomas and is a thriller combination of both psychology and hacking.
2. In the city of Kochi, a policeman is abducted and killed. The police form a team that comprises of ACP Anil, DCP Catherine and criminal psychologist Anwar (Kunchacko Boban) among others. Later, a 2nd and 3rd cop get abducted during late night and are tortured and killed in the same way. A hacker is being used by the criminal to erase the CCTV visuals. The killer leaves a ‘lady of justice’ idol that leads the cop to find a mark on it. They trace it to the sculpturer who reveals about 5 idols being made for a person. The same person blinded the sculpturer to protect his identity. Another cop gets killed, but in a different way which leaves the cop with a fidget spinner at the scene of the crime. The spinner leads Anwar to the hacker and his accomplice, who were already dead. The top order decides to close the investigation as they believe that they caught the killers. The sculpturer informs and gives Anwar the sketch of a man who came to him regarding the ‘lady of justice ‘idol. Anwar identifies him as the famous psychologist, Dr. Benjamin Louis. Dr. was killing his victims as a part of revenge. The last cop, ACP Anil gets kidnapped by Dr. as he was the main culprit in his revenge story. The cops rescue Anil and the Dr. is arrested. Later Dr. is mysteriously shot dead by the police and Anil is killed by Dr.’s sister in his flat.
3. The movie is one of the best in the thriller genre, where the story is surely the winner. The story is written by the director himself and can be compared to the level of a Hollywood movie, without any doubt.
4. The use of psychology to various level has been highlighted here. How a psychologist criminal uses his learnings to kidnap and kill a person while on the other hand, a criminal psychologist uses the same methods to prevent that.
5. Hacking is ethical as well un-ethical, as we can see in the movie. The same person can use his hacking skills for robbing money from banks, while at the same time he can use it to prevent cyber attacks,  a new type of war prevailing in this world.
6. The acting by the cast was good, but some lead actors did not perform the roles that good, one reason maybe because of the dubbing. The direction and cinematography are also worth appreciating.
7. The addition of a criminal psychologist post in the police department has become an essential thing, as these professionals help in solving the present crimes as well as future crimes by communicating and analysing various criminal minds.
8. The main reason for the crimes conducted was police corruption. Whenever an influential person commits a crime and up to any level, the cops try their maximum to protect them, which thereby destroys the lives of an innocent.
9. A critically as well as a financially successful movie.
10. A must watch one and I give 8/10.
